We've started a new feature over on MacBreak Weekly that I really hope becomes a regular thing: "_Mac Whines_!" Yeah, sure, I'm an unapologetic Apple fanboy (I, mean duh), but some stuff about my Mac experience makes me crazy. Have you got a beef with your Mac or OS X you want to shout from the shiny counter of the "Genius" Bar? Yeah, me too. I'll open with:

Y'all hush. Macs are perfect. Hail Apple! Hail Jobs! But in a world where they may not be perfect, I'd bring up the Dock. It just ain't a-workin. I should be able to tell at one glance which applications I have there and which are open. I shouldn't have to process what icon stands for what ("um let's see the one with the feather is ... Illustrator? Photoshop?") or search for itty bitty triangles to see what's open. Dashboard doesn't do it for me, either: why does everything have to pop up? Also, Merl's right, the Finder just needs to be rehauled and rethought somehow. Surprise me, Apple. And don't make me go into Apple Mail or Safari to change my default mail program and browser. That's pretty tired and desperate. Stick it in the System Prefences where it belongs. » POSTED IN:
