Open Thread: Mac Mind Mapping, and how you use it
Merlin Mann | Sep 17 2006
I've recently revived my interest in doing mind mapping as a way to capture ideas and plan out projects. Back in the day, I'd use Inspiration (which registration regrettably died a few years ago), and in more recent times I've played with free apps like My Mind and FreeMind, as well as tested more costly apps like NovaMind and MindManager. If you also like to mind map, I'm curious to hear which of these you and your Mac are using, how you're using it, and what made you choose one app over another. Got a preference? Prefer regular old paper and markers? Using lots of images in your mind maps? Which pay app is most worth the dough, and why? And for folks who are new to mind mapping, here's a few links to get you started:

![]() I use Tinderbox for mapping...Submitted by Bobby (not verified) on September 20, 2006 - 3:35am.
I use Tinderbox for mapping out ideas. It's interface is clean and allows you to put a lot of detail within the individual notes that make up the map. The map view notes (box shaped) can be resized, colored, linked with arrows at one or both ends. There is also a background box (not a note) that can serve as a way to visually group or separate items on the screen. The map view in Tinderbox is one of many ways to view your notes (there are also outline, chart, html, treemap, explorer views), it is allows me to turn the map view notes into usable content at the next stage of my planning/writing/publishing process. I've found the map view an effective way to brainstorm with staff (I turn my 20 inch iMac screen at an angle to face the group and would invest in an LCD projector if the price came down some). » POSTED IN:
