AskMe: How to become an eccentric (or just look like one)
Merlin Mann | Jul 13 2006
Suggest eccentricities for me to adopt | Ask MetaFilter From a fun AskMe thread:
This reminds me of that stage where teenage girls randomly start to affect a terrible british accent, or when college freshmen suddenly stop wearing shoes and take up raw foods and the shakuhachi. Of course, this is not to say that I haven't had ideas of my own. ’Fess up: what was your goofiest affectation and what made you stop it? Clarification (2006-07-15 10:20:20): The "In my quest..." portion above is a quotation from the link that is referenced; it's not actually me asking for help to (God forbid) become more eccentric. This confused some people, and, well, I regret your confusion if you have any and hope this clarification helps. -- The Management 98 Comments

Ah, Merlin "Adam" 12 and...Submitted by Nan (not verified) on July 17, 2006 - 5:55am.
Ah, Merlin "Adam" 12 and Brian-who-cannot-be-ridiculously-named, you're both rank amateurs. When I was 12, Snoopy was my hero in all of life, and so when I changed schools that year I introduced myself as Snoopy. I got my picture in the paper once, and that's the name I gave the photographer, so that's the name immortalized in the caption. I'm still not wild about my given name (Nancy Reagan was the last nail in the coffin), so I make everyone call me a shortened version of it. Except for the people I went to school with, who still call me Snoopy. The only eccentricity I affect now is that I type in full sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation even in email, chats, and text messages. And I take pictures of my Filofaxes and post them on a blog, which my family considers seriously zany. (You'd think after that Snoopy thing nothing would surprise them.) » POSTED IN:
