Open Thread: What's your favorite minimalist wallet?
Merlin Mann | Apr 21 2006
Like most 43F articles on economical carriage and stowage, the Jimi post attracted a lot of interest. Makes me think it's time for an open thread: What's your favorite minimalist wallet? Jimi? Slimmy? Moneyclip? Coin purse? Goin' commando? Spill in comments (and feel free to link to canonical product pages or price compar-i-nators like Froogle). My own winner for minimalism? Starting before a trip to New York in the late 80s, I started wrapping my driver's license, ATM card, and a bill or two in a couple of my Goody pony tail holders (shut up). I think that was my wallet for at least the next two years -- until I got my first real job and decided to go cowhide again. Still, it remains one of my favorites. 212 Comments

My first minimal wallet was one of those black binder office clips (except mine was colored gold (you know, the 'executive' clip)). Worked great for years, but I outgrew it. My previous wallet (now stolen) was my favorite minimal wallet... Single fold, very thin leather. When folded, a tiny bit larger than a credit card and when unfolded it had two pockets on opposing sides, one for cash (folded in half) and one for cards. My new minimal wallet is a Billykirk card case (http://www.billykirk.com/ - Flash site, look under the "card case" section) and I love it. Different from your "normal" wallet as it's top-loading and snaps shut. Money is folded in half and slid down. Form factor is slightly larger than a folded bill, but the leather is slightly thick but very soft) They also make card cases which are even a bit smaller but still have the same snap closure. All their items are really well made, but a bit on the pricey side. Also, the snap closure and nicely sewn leather gives it a slightly anachronistic feel. » POSTED IN:
