Feed2Podcast makes audio out of your feed
Merlin Mann | Jan 15 2006
Technically providing the opposite of what some folks have asked for on 43 Folders (jump to 4:04 or so), Feed2Podcast turns your garden-variety RSS feed into a series of audio files, which can then be subscribed to like a podcast. It's a clever idea, although the robot voice reading the text sounds, to my ear, like he's hopped up on goofballs and ready for a multi-state crime spree (which, come to think of it, might be a fun way to hear my "writing"). Anyhow, it's definitely fun as a proof of concept -- and probably a welcome and economical development for folks with sight issues who'd still like to keep up with bloggers' kitties and the results of their sundry personality tests. If, for some reason, you think you'd like to hear the last few 43F posts read aloud by a nervous robot, Feed2Podcast and I are happy to oblige: So out of curiosity, does something like this appeal to you, just in general? Would this be a service you think you'd use, for listening on commutes etc.? [ Danke, Lifehacker ] 9 Comments

I've had this running on...Submitted by Scott Kingery (not verified) on January 16, 2006 - 3:23pm.
I've had this running on my site for a little while now. Not really sure how many people listen to it. Today I switched the feed to talkr (www.talkr.com) as I think the voice is a little better. Only downside to talkr that I've seen is the little while I've had it is that those "Feedflare" feedburner links at the end of each post (if you use them) are images and it speaks them as "orginal post contained an image here" and says that several times if you have several of those links at the end of each post. In theory I suppose I could create a different feedburner feed that didn't contain the feedflare just for the purpose of talkr. Toss up I suppose. Other cool thing about Talkr is that there is code you can put by your permalink so that lazy...er I mean multitasking...folks can listen to your lengthy blog post. Beauty is that I used Feedburner to publish the speech feed in the first place so it's easy to switch out the back end and not lose subscribers (if there are any). » POSTED IN:
