Everybody needs a personal "status" page
Merlin Mann | Oct 19 2005
Lots of sites have status pages. I wish more people had them.
Yeah, status pages for people should be more popular, and I also wish they were a bit easier to make and maintain. It would be a nifty way to display information like:
I've long had a Lazy Web wish for a little perl script that could That way you could maintain a bunch of easy lists and the script does all the building and posting automagically. You could fake this with a blogging tool, but I like the idea of having it all updated in the background. Got a good personal status page? Seen one you liked? What would you post on yours? Have a fast trick for helping noobs make and post status points to the interweb? Care to pick up my Lazy Web gauntlet? 72 Comments

I wonder, with the stuff...Submitted by Nick (not verified) on October 23, 2005 - 3:18pm.
I wonder, with the stuff that's been done with electrodes etc, would it ever be possible for a "Nick is angry at something - don't bother him" real-life web-enabled mood ring or something? Heh. In my experience, people being angry at something else are usually quick to anger re: just about anything else if you bother them with it.. You could take it off when you didn't want your mood to be known .. I've read a few different research papers where people tried to design 'communication devices' which allowed mood to be transmitted. I guess the problem is they all required the user to manually set their 'mood' - like we do in Instant Messenger apps today. How many people do you know who are 'always on-line, always away'? I do it, and I know a lot of people who do it too. It's like screening calls from your little IM not-POTS network of contacts. :D » POSTED IN:
