Everybody needs a personal "status" page
Merlin Mann | Oct 19 2005
Lots of sites have status pages. I wish more people had them.
Yeah, status pages for people should be more popular, and I also wish they were a bit easier to make and maintain. It would be a nifty way to display information like:
I've long had a Lazy Web wish for a little perl script that could That way you could maintain a bunch of easy lists and the script does all the building and posting automagically. You could fake this with a blogging tool, but I like the idea of having it all updated in the background. Got a good personal status page? Seen one you liked? What would you post on yours? Have a fast trick for helping noobs make and post status points to the interweb? Care to pick up my Lazy Web gauntlet? 72 Comments

That's funny, the first thing...Submitted by Jack Mottram (not verified) on October 21, 2005 - 6:07am.
That's funny, the first thing I thought of when I saw this post was Andrew White's handy little scripts - I grabbed them the other day have a status thing set up for friends to view, plus a sort of todo list/note taking thing using Quicksilver's append and prepend functions to input stuff. (If I keep tinkering, I suspect I'll end up with a really rubbish version of blosxom!) I'm not entirely sure whether status pages like this are always good idea on the publically accessible web, though - in my case, I'd doubtless update to say 'Having a cup of tea and watching telly becuase I can't be bothered writing the reviews due today' at the exact moment one of my editors checked my site. » POSTED IN:
