Tips from the Wiki for watching less TV
Merlin Mann | Oct 17 2005
There's a good, evolving page on the Wiki with tips for Watching Less TV. Some of the most immediately useful advice comes in the "Dealing with channel surfing" section:
I used to smugly think TiVo was my salvation, but I now realize how often I'm sitting through yet another C.S.I. or King of the Hill--shows I love, but that I have seen a half-dozen times and now just treat like a constantly-replenished bowl of video M&Ms. Seems like the distinction in quality is subtle when any activity becomes rote; casual media consumption that's becomes automatic or compulsive could probably use a bit of reflection and possibly pruning. 20 Comments

A year ago, we moved...Submitted by Rob Kohr (not verified) on October 17, 2005 - 5:54am.
A year ago, we moved to a new house. Before we moved, I was saying that I don't like watching tv anymore. It is just mindless crap seperated by commercials and you are continually hunting around for something... anything good to watch. And like a good random rewarder, it provides once in a while. In the new house we never set up cable. The cable company called us for a while, and were quite astonished that we had no intrest in cable. It was the best choice ever. I bond more with my fiance and my friends. I waste less time and when I actually see cable, I watch a little and it reminds me that I made the right choice. I just got a netflix account with the 1 per week plan. I love movies, and have plenty of dvds, and this provides a little something new each week. » POSTED IN:
