Guest Check PDA

This is a clever variation on the Hipster PDA that I picked up over on the HPDA wiki page. Use a cheapie, pocket-sized pad of restaurant “Guest Checks” to take notes. The hack is to use the kind with old-school carbon copies, so you’ll always have an archival copy of any notes you take.

Check out the full set on Flickr.

This seems kind of absurd...What's next...the Napkin PDA?

The purpose of a PDA is to have an electronic verison of a notebook. The digital nature of the data means it can be backed up, copy and pasted and transmitted with great ease. much more can be stored in much less space that any paper. They are great reference tools, but as data capture devices they can't compare in speed and ease to pen and paper. PDAs have some disadvantages too.

The hipster PDA is a nice retro idea (and I carry a PDA, cards AND a Moleskine) and an excellent organizaional aid, but please folks let's stop trying to reinvent the PDA. PDAs are great as they are. So are Moleskines (or your favorite pocket notebook), 3x5 cards Post-It notes, etc.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »

This is the video of Merlin’s keynote at Webstock 2011. The one where he cried. You should watch it. »
