Naming project support files
Merlin Mann | Sep 20 2004
Quick GTD bagatelle. I’ve started keeping all my one-page, per-project support files in the same folder as my GTD lists. I still use “@” as prefix for contextual lists, but now I use “&” to indicate a support file. E.g.
Makes for easier sorting, nice visual scanning, and the ability to quickly pluck out hot topics on either your horizontal or vertical radar screen. (Although I’m open to a nominee for a better symbol.) 10 Comments

I use Mail.app for email. I use the @ mark for actions and the + mark for reference. I only have the below listed top level folders, every email goes into a project folder or complete. 'In' stays clean. I add three non standard @ folders because it adds to the system. Clients are first priority for me and I want them to be at the top level. In Mail I use the following: @inquiry: waiting for @inquiry: response needed @projects Folder name: next action JAS livestock standards: write comments @waiting for Folder name: next action @read & review Folder name: next action @someday, maybe @bulk (all newsletters, and would be spam) +Complete +Faxes (pdfs of all faxes received on an orange imac and automatically emailed to me) +General Reference (completed projects filed alphabetically) +Personal +Registrations (software etc. registration emails) +Scans (scans of files I have emailed to myself) +Tel Records (my secretary emails me a record of all incoming calls daily) I would love to be able to have a script that would export the folder names and the from, subject, date of the messages in the folders. I can get a list of the folder names by using foldertolist http://www.torellasoft.com and exporting them to excel. But it is only the mbox names in the mail folder. I would like to have the folder name, and the emails in each one because I would like to review it outside of mail.app » POSTED IN:
